GUFERO PVC mats serve as an alternative to the more widely known rubber mats.

Material of PVC mats

PVC mats are manufactured from softened polyvinyl chloride which provides the mats with their characteristic softness for walking on. The advantage of PVC for the manufacture of mats is its good chemical and thermal resistance.

Design of PVC mats

PVC mats are made from soft spaghetti-shaped loops and therefore these mats are also known as “spaghetti carpet”. PVC mats are formed by a layer of loops the thickness of which is a standard 12 mm. PVC mats are classified according to the type of backing (the underside of the PVC mat).

• PVC mats without backing
• PVC mats with foam backing (thickness 1.5 mm)
• PVC mats with firm backing (thickness 3 mm)

The selection of the correct type of mat backing is important for the application and further maintenance of the mat. For example, PVC mats without backing are easier to beat as dirt can fall out from both sides of the mat. Foam backed PVC mats can retain water to some extent which thereby softens the PVC mat and makes it more comfortable to walk on. PVC mats with a firm backing are found in applications where hardened mats are required (e.g. in cases where there is no frame for placing the mat).

Application of PVC mats

Flexible PVC mats are suitable for entrances to buildings and other busy places. Due to their flexibility and relative softness, PVC mats are also suitable for walking on barefoot. One of the main advantages of PVC mats is their ability to catch dirt.

Placing of PVC mats

PVC mats can either be placed outside just before an entrance and within the outdoor cleaning zone or directly inside. In most cases mats are placed into frames recessed into the floor. Another option is to place the mats into frames with a bevelled edge or freely into frames.

Cleaning of PVC mats

Thanks to their porous structure PVC mats are easy to clean by beating or washing under running water. Alternatively, PVC mats can be vacuumed (ideally using a water filter vacuum cleaner).
